Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT)
Being heard by others is something most of us take for granted, but those who are losing that ability can feel like they’re being cut off from the rest of the world. Our goal at SpeechNexus is to help LSVT participants learn to reclaim their voice and and to regain the ability to connect at home, work, and in the community.
LSVT is an evidence based treatment developed to address voice disorders seen in persons who have PD. Research regarding LSVT’s effectiveness has been funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH) as well as numerous foundations. Research studies have documented increased loudness, voice quality, and functional communication following treatment.
Individuals with ataxia, multiple sclerosis, stroke, and traumatic brain injury who have received LSVT have also shown marked improvement in their communication abilities.
Some people with Parkinson’s disease (PD) may have co-occurring medical conditions that could influence when to begin LSVT. It is advisable for an individual to be stable on current PD medications before starting LSVT.
LSVT is the gold standard for the treatment of voice challenges faced by individuals having PD. Jennifer Austin holds LSVT certification to provide this acclaimed voice treatment.
